1987 saw the West Coast Eagles and the then Brisbane Bears join the Australian Football League following the relocation of South Melbourne in 1982, to Sydney, (renamed the Sydney Swans.) The aim was to make the game a truly national game and this was seen as a natural progression in achieving that aim. No one in their wildest dreams could have predicted the effect the West Coast Eagles was going to have on the competition in such a relatively short time.

It was an accepted fact that with concessions and some prime picks that they had a fair list but that on its own wasn't going to win premierships. The engagement of Mick Malthouse as senior coach in 1990 was the final piece of the jigsaw, he brought discipline and professionalism, which went a long way to ensuring the Eagles qualified for the finals for ten years in a row, picking up two flags on the way, 92 and 94.

Like many West Australians I was introduced to Aussie Rules via the Eagles, for that I say thank you for such a terrific period in Australian sport.

This selection of verse is a tribute to the West Coast Eagles, in particular the players and coaches who were on the list in 1992 and who all made valued contributions throughout the season, ensuring the Eagles qualified for the 1992 Grand Final.

The players who wore the Eagle with pride that day in September, did so because they were considered the fittest and the best for the job on the day.
